I'd been wanting to do something for some time about the growing scourge of talking/texting/surfing while driving. It's so obviously and undeniably dangerous. Then I read a recent New York Times article revealing that the National Highway Safety Commission was pressured to suppress the results of research on the dangers of cell phone use while driving. This was the last straw for me.
For the last five years I've been in a unique position to witness the dangers of this needless activity. I have commuted to work by bicycle in a high traffic area during rush hour. Aside from the fact that I had many near-misses myself by zombie drivers blathering on about nothing, I've seen numerous red lights run, rear-end collisions (some hit-and-run), and meandering drivers who clearly have no awareness of their surroundings and are oblivious to the fact that they just may kill someone or themselves.
The purpose of this site is to lay out the evidence and to publish the pictures. Pictures of zombie drivers and of the accidents they cause. And to inspire you to do two things: STOP USING YOUR CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING, and convince others to do so as well. No conversation is important enough to risk your own life and the lives of others.
Should drunk driving be legal? Cell phone driving is, and it's just as dangerous.
And by the way, hands-free driving is NO SAFER! It's the fact that your MIND is somewhere else, not your hands, that causes the accident.
