Prosecutor's Office: RTA Bus Driver on Cell Phone When Man was Hit

From Fox8.com:

CLEVELAND - There is new information in the case of an RTA bus driver, who struck and killed a pedestrian in a crosswalk last March.

A spokesperson from the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office tells Fox 8 that Angela Williams, 49, was indicted on aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide, and vehicular manslaughter.

Williams faced a misdemeanor charge for the 59-year-old Patrick T. Merrill's death, until prosecutors received her cell phone records and discovered she was on the phone, just moments before the accident. RTA has a strict policy against using a cell phone while driving their buses.

Prosecutor's say Williams' reckless driving led to the Berea man's death, and brought upon the felony charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.

Williams faces up to five years in prison. An arraignment has been set for August 20th.
